Project Name: Magical Wings of the Tropics
Location: Beijing Botanical Garden, China
Magical Wings of the Tropics is a collaboration between Penang Butterfly Farm and Beijing Botanical Gardens in creating an educational and scientific exhibition about nature and butterflies. The project completed in early 2008, and attracted plenty of crowd from Beijing Olympics in that year.
This scientific exhibition which is within the Beijing Botanical Garden features a medium size live butterfly garden where one can watch tropical butterflies flying around. This butterfly garden concept is unique as people in temperate regions rarely can have the chance to observe and experience tropical plants and butterflies. The butterfly garden also attracted nearby schools and institution to participate in their educational tour of the butterfly garden.
Apart from the garden, Visitors at Magical Wings of the Tropics get to enjoy an exhibition with plenty of scientific material being displayed. Some of the large displays are also accompanied by the live exhibits in terrariums, whereby visitors can view exotic and rare insects, amphibians and reptiles from the tropical world. An insect museum with more than 1000 species of insects and butterflies was also setup to thrill the visitor which allows them to understand nature’s biodiversity.
